Career Pathways Cover

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians:

THE CAREER PATHWAYS HANDBOOK: This Handbook provides information that will help you choose your career and classes for the next school year. Selecting the right classes for each student is crucial. It will affect:

  • Student interest in school

  • Career preparedness

  • Class standing

  • College admissions qualifications

The process of registering for courses and developing a four-year plan is difficult and somewhat complicated. Hopefully this information will help you through this process.

WHAT YOU AND YOUR STUDENT(S) NEED TO DISCUSS: It is important that you review the Career Pathways book carefully with your student before entry into freshman year, and every year thereafter. A four-year plan is necessary, and it must have a focus in mind:

  • What are your child’s interests?

  • What are they good at that might develop into a good career choice?

  • What standard of living, lifestyle and work environment is most appealing?

  • Will they attend university, technical college, enlist in the military, or prepare for a career right after graduation?

**These plans will likely change before graduation, but every student will complete an Academic and Career Plan (ACP) that will be updated and reviewed annually, per the Education for Employment Act (PI-26).

WHO CAN HELP?

If you have questions or need advice, the place to begin is with your student’s school counselor. EHS provides two full-time school counselors, Becky Rose and Erin Springstead. Mrs. Rose works with students with last names A-K, and Mrs. Springstead works with students with last names L-Z. If you have questions on a specific course, feel free to contact the instructor of that course.

The following are the requirements for graduation: 24 total credits.

These must include:

  • English = 4

  • Math = 3

  • Science = 3

  • Social Studies = 3

  • Electives = 8

  • Health = 1

  • Phy Ed = 1.5

  • * Personal Finance (.5 Credit) is required for graduation starting with the class of 2028.

To fulfill the 3 math credits required for graduation, a student may take 1 credit from a Board approved math equivalency course to fulfill this requirement: Intro to Coding, Advanced Coding, Food Quantities and Measures, and Construction (Framing, Electrical, & Plumbing).

To fulfill the 3 science credits required for graduation, a student may take 1 credit from a Board approved

science equivalency course to fulfill this requirement: Veterinary Science, Wildlife Ecology, Food Science and Processing, and Plant and Soil Science.

Thank you, parents and guardians, for your active involvement in this process. Good luck, students, as you make course selections. We’re looking forward to a great school year for every EHS student!

Sincerely,

Dr. Coombs
